This page features the original cover artwork created for Remembering the Titans: 50 Years Later and Beyond. The paintings by artist Jason Pittman honor the 1971–1972 T.C. Williams Titans football team and reflect the book’s central theme: including every player’s story as they lived it, in their own words.

On the front cover, Pittman reimagined a team photo that includes every player from the roster. Instead of the typical 12-per-row format, he arranged the team in rows of six to give each person visual space and importance. With over 80 athletes portrayed, the artwork reinforces the mission of the book—to show the full scope of the team and the many lives it represented.

The back cover features two original paintings by Jason Pittman, each spotlighting several standout Titans and coaches. These images celebrate key figures who were essential to the team’s success including some key players who were left out of the film.

All of these players are close friends of author Robert Luckett, including his Gettysburg football camp roommate, Frankie Glascoe. Despite playing a critical role, he was not mentioned in the movie—a painful omission that the author felt personally. These back cover portraits were created to ensure that players like him are seen, named, and remembered.

The first painting shows Coach Boone with a group of central players. The second painting features Coach Shaw and other important TITANS teammates whose absolute MIGHT inspired and propelled the team to victory.

Artist Jason Pittmas said, “I hope that these paintings do more than illustrate. I hope they align with and help to fulfill Lucket’s vison to in some way help create a fuller picture of who the Titans truly were. Every name and number included here reflects a player or coach whose presence shaped the team, whether or not their story was ever told before. I was honored to re-create every player from the team picture.”
